Kips Bay

Inspired by the best of classic English interiors, “The Drawing Room” is drowsy, relaxed, and comfortable, and features a palimpsest of styles and periods – overlaying a beautiful Arts and Crafts wallpaper and fabrics from Morris & Co and Sanderson, with 18th and 19th century furniture, rug and textiles, contemporary pieces​, custom window treatments and mid-century art. The design was created to convey a gentle, autumnal feel to match the mood of Greenwich Village in the fall – it’s a room to curl up and read a book in. At the outset, Ben Pentreath and Amanda Flood were immediately drawn to a new wallpaper from Sanderson’s ‘Highgrove’ Collection – a wonderful, William Morris inspired, leafy design that itself draws direct inspiration from His Majesty The King’s garden at Highgrove, Gloucestershire.

Chairs and Furniture

Over the years we have designed many pieces of furniture, both for our shop, Pentreath & Hall, and bespoke made for projects. These include tables, bookcases, lamps, chairs and ottomans.

One of our favourite collaborations was the creation of an extraordinary needlepoint ottoman with Fine Cell Work, the charity that provides needlepoint stitched by prisoners – with whom we also designed a successful range of cushions in 2012.

The ability to commission wonderful and interesting makers to create individual pieces for our projects is one of the greatest pleasures of our day-to-day work.

Morris & Co

In 2019, Ben was approached by Morris & Co to design a new collection of fabrics and wallpapers that would build upon the classic 19th century heritage of the firm and breathe new life within it.  Over six months, Ben developed a beautiful range of newly-coloured patterns which draw deep inspiration from the work of the Sanderson Design Studio in the 1960s and 70s.

The first collection, Queen Square, was launched in 2020, to great acclaim, and shortly afterwards Morris & Co approached Ben to design a second collection, Cornubia, which was launched in the spring of 2022.  Queen Square has a rich, jewel-toned, autumnal palette, whereas Cornubia draws inspiration from the summer colours and tones of Ancient Cornwall – Ben’s ancestral roots.

Both collections have won industry awards and have revived interest in printed wallpapers and in Morris & Co more widely. It was an enormous pleasure and privilege for the studio to work with Sanderson on these ranges and we welcome working with other brands in the same way.
